Future Porsche 911 Cabriolet: the roof in question

Future Porsche 911 CabrioletIn 2012, the new Porsche 911 convertible has not yet revealed the nature of its roof. Canvas, or just plain hard a mixture of both? Elements of response, perhaps, with these new sketches.

When we speak of a model as mythical and waited for the Porsche 911, necessarily, all the rumors is scrambling. We already know all of the next generations of 911 991 in Carrera and Carrera S version, to be unveiled at the next Frankfurt Motor Show (September 13-25). However, the convertible version should happen that next year. And on this specific model, it remains unclear what the manufacturer intends to make at the roof level.

There are several hypotheses. A priori, two. Either a traditional canvas roof (as the first prototypes spyshots) or a retractable hardtop (like Peugeot for example). However, a third option to be taken with great caution, seems to be considered by the leaders of Porsche: a mixture of both.

The German Car Forum German site has indeed released the sketches. This would be used to make drawings in the United States and Europe’s patent system. Above, we can see a metal folding roof section and a canvas covering the metal.

A process rather unexpected that would include the future Porsche 911 cabriolet more resilient to high speeds and provide greater security.

After that, it’s just drawings and patents, which does not mean (far from it) that the model will adopt this system well in the end. Especially that it is hard to believe that Porsche will take the risk of breaking its tradition of convertible with a canvas. Customers of the brand would probably be disoriented by this innovation. To be continued, nevertheless, in the coming weeks.Future Porsche 911 Cabriolet
