Le Mans 24 Hours 2012: three innovative projects encouraged

Green GTIn anticipation of the next edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours, the organizers invited three innovative projects to engage in the race.

Just finished the 2011 and the victory of Audi celebrated the next 24 Hours of Le Mans is already on everyone’s mind. In this context, to promote new technologies, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) has invited three innovative cars take the start of the 2012 edition of the race.

The first concept, entitled “Deltawing” (here in red), has just been presented at Le Mans for Highcroft Racing. The machine will have a composite chassis and 300 horsepower (4-cylinder engine of 1600 cm3) and weighs only 475 kg. “The car is capable of reaching the same speed than its competitors with a weight, an aero drag, and power consumption reduced by half, ” said Ben Bowlby, the designer.

Second project, the “Green GT” (here in black and white) highlights another alternative: the hydrogen produced by solar energy from the water. During its conversion into electricity using a fuel cell, it emerges that the water vapor. Scheduled to be presented in the fall, the Green GT LMP H2 will carry 12 kg of hydrogen and should develop 402 horsepower in its final version.

The third concept has Courage Technology with its “Ø12” (here in white on blue). This is a car to drive 100% electric with an electric motor powered by rechargeable batteries and more interchangeable. Recently entered into production, the car wants to get performance similar to LMP2 prototypes.

In short, three innovative projects that should see it in action at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2012. The gear will not be classified in the end, but they should well be present on the starting line. Provided, however, said COA, they retain the values ​​of safety, reliability and performance.Green GT
