Porsche: a new model for attacking Ferrari

Porsche 961Matthias Müller, head of Porsche,  said will launch a new model to address a market served primarily by Ferrari.  With, perhaps, a new 8-cylinder boxer.
Ferrari, Porsche’s new target. In an interview with our colleagues in the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, Matthias Müller (head of Porsche) said he wanted to produce a new model to compete with those of Ferrari.

”  I am always irritated to find that the most expensive 911 is capped at € 250 000 and that the future Hybrid 918 Spyder goes on sale from € 750 000, ” said Matthias Mueller. “Between the two, happily frolicking Ferrari and acclamation. Here we must be with a new car and there is still room for a car of sports type of 959 we built in the 1980s . “

The CEO of Porsche wants to bridge this gap by launching a new model to be between 250,000 and 400,000 euros. It could be the future 961 (name already used in the 1980 competition for the version of the 959), of which you spoke last month with the illustration above. Rumors also mention the possible arrival of an 8-cylinder boxer unprecedented instead of traditional flat-six with a displacement of 4.0 liters. In all cases this was suggested by Wolfgang Hatz, a leader in the development of Porsche.

While waiting for official confirmation, the future model would be the eighth of the Porsche, knowing that there are four ongoing today. In his effort to reach a production of 200,000 vehicles in 2018 (against about 100,000 in 2010), Matthias Müller would introduce three new models, including this one to counter Italia Ferrari 458 and the McLaren MP4-12C. A new supercar that could be discovered by the year 2013-2014.
