Pebble Beach 2011: Cadillac introduces the concept heaven

Cadillac CielCadillac has created a surprise by unveiling at Pebble Beach concept car called Heaven. This is a large and luxurious four-seat cabriolet.

It was not really planned, but we must believe that Cadillac likes to surprise his world. While the audience of Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach were preparing to explore the future Lexus GS, the Infiniti JX or Lotus Evora Road GTE concept, they also got a great novelty from Cadillac.


The manufacturer has indeed to unveil a concept car called Heaven. It is, in fact, a massive and luxurious four-seater cabriolet, according to the official, “a new chapter in the design with a modern air Cadillac projecting the vision of the future ” . With a length of 5.17 m and a width of 1.97 m, the sky-colored Cabernet concept is rather impressive. It supposed to pay tribute to the Californian lifestyle, the convertible has a very neat interior with a dashboard very successful and the use of leather and wood.

At engine, the Cadillac is equipped with a 3.6 liter V6 biturbo associated with an electrical system for a total output of 425 horsepower. It not intended to be produced, for the moment in all cases, the Sky concept should at least be a source of inspiration for future models of the brand.Cadillac Ciel

Cadillac is officially ELR

Cadillac Converj ConceptThe arrival of the Cadillac Range Extender is no surprise. General Motors had already declared the end of 2009 because Cadillac Converj Concept into production will take. The 2 +2 coupe is now an officially renamed Cadillac ELR.

The idea behind the ELR is similar to that of the Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera.

To drive an electric motor is used, powered by lithium-ion batteries. When the batteries begin to be lame, a 4-cylinder jumps to the battery again to boost.

Economy: General Motors World No. 1

GM BondholdersA result of the earthquake in March, Toyota has lost its place as No. 1 global automotive manufacturers in the first half of 2011. General Motors is now ahead of Volkswagen.

From 1935, General Motors was the undisputed leader in the automotive market. Except that this status has changed in 2008 with the economic crisis. Bankrupt the following year, the group of Detroit has consistently lost its place as No. 1 in favor of Toyota. Since then, GM (which owns Cadillac,  for example) found an ascending form and the sales curve continues to climb. In the first half of 2011, the manufacturer has increased sales by 8.9% for a total of 4.536 million vehicles sold. These figures place him squarely in the first place worldwide.

I must say that, struck by the earthquake in Japan in March, Toyota had to halt production on the first half. As a result, its sales fell 22% to be limited to 3.71 million units. It is obviously very far from the estimates earlier this year. Toyota even falls to third-place  car manufacturers. For example, with sales up to 14% (4.13 million cars sold). Volkswagen has well captured the second place. And if we take into account in the calculations the parent and subsidiaries owned more than 50%, the German group would even before General Motors.

In parallel with this announcement, the manufacturer issued a first teaser in the form of a photo showing part of the future ATS, its silhouette at least. A priori, the sedan is expected to resume style as the last Cadillac CTS Coupe, that is to say, a big grille and fenders. Motorization level, one should have the choice between a 2.0-liter turbocharged 270-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 330 horsepower, and even a V6 3.0-liter turbocharged 385 horsepower for an ATS-V. With four-wheel drive. The ATS will compete with the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 or Mercedes C- Class.

However, before its release in summer 2012, will be preceded by the XTS spring. The wide road will be based on the concept of style XTS Platinum (shown below) presented in Detroit in 2010. Produced at the Oshawa plant, the model should offer including a 3.6 liter V6 with a plug-in hybrid developing 350 horsepower.

If the information is still quite limited on the ATS and XTS, Cadillac could say more in the coming weeks. There are whispers, in fact, a prototype of one of the two models could be unveiled at the Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach in mid-August.
